Steve Banks

Steve is a fully certified AMGA/IFMGA licensed mountain guide. Steve has lived in the Crested Butte since 1995, but is a frequent traveller climbing, skiing and guiding all over the world including the French, Italian and Swiss Alps, South America, Canada, Iceland, Alaska and the desert southwest. Steve is an EMT, AIARE Level 1 & 2 avalanche course leader, has been a forecaster and the Executive Director for the Crested Butte Avalanche Center, worked for the Crested Butte Professional Ski Patrol and is currently helping to train the next generation of AMGA mountain guides. Steve is also a Mammut athlete and the Director of International Operations for Irwin Guides

Lifetime climbing goals? Finish unfinished business: Bananier Republique in Chamonix, The Scenic Cruise in the Black and Moonlight Buttress in Zion

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Speak fluent French

If you could invite anyone to be your dinner guest, dead or alive, who would it be? My good buddy Ian Lamphere who was lost to an avalanche in 2013

If you won the lottery what’s the first thing you would do? Go out for Martinis

What would you name the autobiography of your life? “No Other Way”

What did you do growing up that got you into trouble? Skip school to go skiing

What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever received? Best-my first climbing rope Worst-Gift basket of horrible “Holiday Foods”

Do you have a spirit animal? My Labrador retriever, Powder

What is your first memory of being really psyched? Holidays with all my cousins skiing and sledding in New England winters
