While growing up in Ohio wasn’t exactly conducive to climbing rocks, Kris discovered climbing gyms as a way to keep out of the trouble he consistently found himself in as a teen. A rebellious attitude led him toward trad climbing, which dominated his first decade of climbing. After a three year break to focus on the hiphop he had grown up with, he returned to the crags and rediscovered sport climbing while continuing to make hiphop that blended with his love of climbing. After a goal of climbing 5.13 was quickly realized, Kris set 14a as an audacious lifetime goal. Many thousands of hours of research into training led to forming Power Company Climbing, his popular training blog. Shortly after turning 40, Kris climbed his first 14a, Transworld Depravity, in the Red River Gorge. Not one to be satisfied, he’s formed new goals: V10 boulder, 13b trad, write a book, and finish a long time album project called “To Mock A Killingbird”. As of the dawn of 2015, all 4 goals are on their way to fruition, with “To Mock A Killingbird” nearly ready to make its debut into the world. With a 17 year old daughter, an amazing fiancé, and a full time job, there’s no telling when Kris will wrap up this list of goals, but one thing is certain… they’ll be followed by bigger goals.
