Jamie Finlayson
Jamie started climbing in 1995 at the age of 15. He took to climbing quickly and sent his first 5.12 within a few months of first trying the sport. At the time he was heavily involved in alpine skiing and he only climbed in the summer or when time permitted. He went on to become a professional ski racer and a member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team. He represented Canada racing downhill all over the world. After his ski career ended in 2004 due to an injury, he turned his attention to climbing and has not looked back since.
He has been progressing consistently over the past ten years and has climbed a number of 5.14’s in the Squamish area such as: Superman 14c, Supermanboy 14c, Captain America 14b, Revival 14b, The Working Man 14b FA, The Battle of Evermore 14b. He recently became the third person to complete the entire Big Show wall near Squamish, along with Alex Honnold and Steve Townshend.
Jamie also enjoys ice and mixed climbing and on his first time mixed climbed helped establish an M10 route near Squamish with Tim Emmett. Jamie also still enjoys to ski in the winter and is an avid mountain biker (on climbing rest days of course).
Favorite Movie? Hands down the original Dumb and Dumber!
What did you dress up as last Halloween? I went to Europe last fall and picked up an awesome authentic Lederhosen outfit. It makes for a great costume!
Lifetime climbing goals? I would like to finish off Chris Sharma’s Dreamcatcher 5.14d in Squamish. I have been working it for almost a year now and I have one hung it. I would also like to send the infamous Cobra Crack 5.14b, considered one of the worlds hardest crack lines. Then not too sure, 5.15 would be cool…
